Text Based Writing

no advice about writing makes any sense unless you’ve clarified who’s reading it and the function of
writing helps you thinking:the stuff you’re thinking about is too damn complicated to just do it in your hand
the function of that text is to cause readers to change what they think about the world

your teachers read your stuff because they were paid to read it so you don’t know if your content is valuable.

all you need to think is how reader read
make sure all your content is valuable all the time
the end of a sentence what we call a stress position
we should be trained in how to think about how to use that technique to create value
there’s no literal for me language is not rule following it’s controlling the reading process it’s understanding how readers read
text difference:
- tell what the paper will be about
- what the paper will argue
- tell (you)what question(you have) the paper will answer ✅
your job is not to reveal your head your job is to change their heads.
find the way how they create value
we value reading about bad stuff
you’ve gotten used to the idea that you’re whatever you write your reader’s just going to read. I can’t tell you how wrong that is and i philosophically i think it’s a gigantic mistake language is a relationship between people
‘The dog is chasing the cat.’ and ‘The cat is chased by the dog.’ which one is better?It depends on the reader,who do they cares more. It’s not just compare the length between two sentences, it’s all about the readers.
we’re going to figure out what your readers care about what they want to focus on and we’re going to put that in the subject position .
stop your habits of thinking of writing as revealing yourself that’s not going to happen
